Mitchell is developing innovations that are revolutionising the Australian transport industry.

These apply to both equipment and operational procedures, and are providing customers with valuable solutions resulting in reduced costs with increased flexibility, efficiency and safety.

Mitchell works closely with its customers to understand their business and provide bulk logistics solutions that meet, and even anticipate their needs. By systematically reviewing its policies and procedures, Mitchell can deliver mutual benefits that significantly contribute to the ongoing development of its customers' operations.

Mitchell's ongoing commitment to R&D is significant. With our own in-house engineer and a continual global search for best practice technology and procedures we continuously evaluate the latest in bulk logistics technology.

We understand what works in the day-to-day transport environment and the result is an impressive list of industry firsts including:

  • Engineered and constructed new explosive containers suitable for carrying both explosives and detonators on the one trailer. These were extensively tested in conjunction with the Department of Minerals and Energy (1991).
  • Pioneered the first trailers for carrying explosives on B/doubles (1996).
  • The first tri tri B double fuel tanker (1996).
  • Australia's largest fuel tanker configuration, carrying 147,000 litres (1996).
  • First twin steer tri drive road train prime mover (1997).
  • Queensland's six-trailer icon road train (1998).
  • A fully functional fuel bladder system, which integrates the cartage of bulk liquid, including fuel and acids, with bulk products such as ore or concentrate, in tipping trailers or kibble bins (1999).
  • The world's first fully integrated code fuel tanker and chiller curtainsider, The Fatboy, developed in conjunction with Tieman Industries (1999).
  • A fully functional fuel bladder system which integrates the cartage of petroleum products in one direction and crude oil in the other (2003).
